Article: Worst to Best - Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

Worst to Best - Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

Reeses are my favorite candy, and I make an effort to try every one I can get my hands on. Here are my top 20 flavors ranked. I'm only ranking the Reeses based on flavors, not their shape or make (organic/vegan/etc).

20. Werewolf Track Reeses. These suck. They are way too sweet and cloying. They hardly resemble the savory peanut butter namesake. Avoid at all costs.

19. Peanut Butter Pie Reeses. These aren't as egregious as the Franken-Cup Reeses, but they aren't great. The peanut butter taste is fine, but the chocolate taste is overwhelmingly dominated by the pie flavor. I know that sounds like an absurd criticism, but it's true. When you open the bag, there is an aggressive aroma unlike any other of the variants. It feels manufactured in a way that is off-putting. The flavor does not justify the aggressive atmosphere.

18. Spring Sprinkles Reeses. Essentially Reeses with sprinkles in them. The texture is fine, but the sprinkles themselves are flavorless.

17. Mallow-Top Reeses. These are similar in taste to the werewolf track Reeses, albeit slightly better. The marshmallow flavor is fine if a little muted.

16. Franken-Cup Reeses. It's interesting to me that my bottom five Reeses flavors are largely seasonal based. Like the previous few examples, the creme variant just isn't hitting.

15. Lava Cup Reeses. You can still find this one in stores. The fudge flavor adds a little to the overall mouthfeel, but it's not bringing too much to the table. This is probably the first flavor that I would consider to be "fine".

14. Chocolate Lovers Reeses. Doesn't do much for me.

13. Pretzel Reeses. Sadly, I do feel feel like this flavor is overrated. The pretzels are pretty flavorless and only add a small amount of texture to the cup. I actually feel like this variant would be a more successful flavor had it been transferred to a normal cup rather than a big cup.

12. PB&J Reeses - Strawberry. This will probably be a controversial take, but I vastly prefer the bolder grape flavor. The strawberry and peanut butter flavor work a little too well in tandem, and as a result they kind of cancel each other out. I would definitely recommend trying both to see what your take is.

11. Peanut Butter Lovers Reeses. You might think that too much peanut butter in a Reeses cup is a bad thing. I would point you to the Reeses egg, which in my opinion offers the most balanced ratio. This Peanut Butter Lovers Reeses comes very close to hitting that optimal ratio. This was a good variant.

10. Reeses Puff Reeses. I want to start off by saying that I am not a fan of Reeses Puffs, and I think they do a poor job of demonstrating the appeals of a Reeses cup (flavor, texture, mouthfeel, etc). That being said, these were a surprise hit. The Reeses Puffs actually do a fantastic job of adding flavor to the cup without overwhelming it. I would recommend this variant even if you dislike the cereal!

9. Dark Chocolate Reeses. Not much to say here. It's well executed.

8. Caramel Reeses. Sometimes simple is best. This is exactly what you want a caramel Reeses to taste like. The ratio is perfect.

7. Potato Chip Reeses. Wow, this really works out so well! The potato chips add texture and are flavorful. You get a good ratio. I'm a huge chiphead so it works out for me in tandem.

6. PB&J Reeses - Grape. They went for a home run and hit a triple. I appreciate the boldness of the grape. It really tasted like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Kudos to Reeses for attempting this one.

5. White Chocolate Reeses. My favorite of the more generic variants. Always hits, especially with the ghost shapes.

4. Crunchy Cookie Reeses. I think this was Juliet's favorite. The texture and flavor was perfect. Cookies in a Reeses just make sense.

3. Oreo Reeses. This was an incredible ratio for both the miniatures and the normal size. What a beautiful collaboration! I also tried the Reeses Oreos, which were pretty good but not as great as the Oreo Reeses.

2. Reeses Pieces Reeses. Wow! These are so much better than you would even expect! It's a little cannabalistic, but those crunchy pieces really add something to the overall flavor and mouthfeel.

1. Inside-Out Reeses. The GOAT. I think about these daily.

Have a nice day.
